Panchkula, March 3 Ward number: 15

Area: Parts of Sector 15 opposite Industrial Area

Category: General

Overall rating: 4/10

The residents of Buddenpur village in Panchkula are a harassed lot with the problem of stray animals and poor sanitation conditions in the village a big cause of concern for them. The councillor of the ward, Mahender Singh however, maintained that a lot of developmental works were being done in his ward. He also revealed that he did not like the dirty politics involved in the Municipal Council, because of which he would not be contesting the forthcoming MC elections.

The councillor also added that he did not have enough power and getting work done in this scenario was tough.

Mohan Chand, a resident of the village, said, “The sanitation condition of the village has remained poor throughout the last five years. Not only does entire village stink, a nearby water pond has created havoc in the area. All stray animals drank water there and created very unhygienic conditions in the area. It was also the breeding ground for mosquitoes, resulting in the spread of various diseases in the ward. After numerous petitions, the pond was finally filled up. “.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Guddi Devi, another resident of the ward, who said that the stray cattle menace in the ward is a major cause of concern for all. “The conditions of roads and street lights in the ward are pathetic. Despite the councillor being requested to get the problem solved, nothing as such was done,” added Devi. She further revealed that a number of thefts had taken place in the village because of the non- functional street lights.

Jagmohan Singh, a resident of the ward, however, said, “Though we do understand that a lot of work has been pending for a while, over all the work done by the councillor has been satisfactory. The recarpeting of roads has been done from time to time, but water-logging in the village during rains has led to several people being harassed.”

He also added that it was high time that politicians left their petty differences if they wanted to go ahead with the developmental works in their respective wards.

Talking to Newsline, the councillor of the ward, Mahender Singh said, “Though I have tried to do my best for the ward, I understand that a lot of work remains pending. Because of the dirty politics at the MC level, getting developmental work done becomes difficult for us”. He further added that it was also because of this that he had decided not to contest the forthcoming MC elections.

He said that apart from getting the recarpeting of the village roads done, a water pond that was causing serious sanitation issues in the ward had been filled up. “We plan to get a community centre constructed in place of that pond for which the approval has recently been received”, added Singh.
