After many failed efforts to drive away a straying cow from their farm, Premila decided to keep her. As it was pregnant, she also took adequate care of the animal and soon after delivery; it started yielding milk for Premila's family.
Keeping the cattle was not an easy job though, and Premila attended a few workshops organised by Amul Dairy on cattle rearing to get some insights into cattle rearing.
She also started taking the dairy’s help for marketing the milk. Not only milk, Premila is also benefiting from the urine of the cow. She now sells the milk at Rs 12 to Rs 14 per litre and the urine at Rs 60 per litre.
With time, the cow also delivered a few more calves.
Premila says the lessons learnt in workshops helped her understand the food requirement of the cattle. She says clean food and water lead to clean milk production.
Recently, she was honoured at the Anand Krish Mahotsav, which she flagged off, driving a tractor.
