New Delhi Besides the fact that the two alleged militants were trying to enter the Capital through the Noida border, another Delhi ‘connection’ emerged when Noida police found from the Maruti car an identity card of a student from a school in New Usmanpur, Northeast Delhi.

According to the police, the identity card belonged to Sameer Chaudhary, a Class X student of Shibban Modern Secondary Public School at Vijay Colony, III, Pushta Road in New Usmanpur.

Alerted by their counterparts in Noida, the local police spent about an hour checking admission registers and other records maintained by the school.

School principal Dinesh Rani said, “We showed the police records of the last five years but no admission made in the name of Sameer Chaudhary was found.”

Rani said the school authorities are ready to help the police with any information they want: “We are not scared of sharing any information — we know we are not involved in any illegal or anti-national activity.”

Atiq, the security guard at the school, said A few policemen came around Sunday noon and asked for the registers. “They scrutinised the registers for over an hour,” he said.

A Delhi Police Special Cell team later visited both the encounter spot in Noida and the school in New Usmanpur for parallel investigations.

Noida’s Senior Superintendent of Police Naveen Arora said they have shared all information with the Delhi Police and are in constant touch with them.

Meanwhile, locals gathered near the school as the police team went ahead with their work said authorities rarely, if ever, verify credentials of people living in the colony. “There has been no effort to verify and identify illegal immigrants living in our colony. Some have even got voter’s identity cards and rations cards made,” Shyam Lal, a resident of Pushta Lane III, said.
