Vadodara, February 22 With just 20-odd students turning up to protest and burn an effigy of M S University Vice Chancellor Manoj Soni over the issue of security in the campus, it seems as if students of the varsity are oblivious to a recent sex CD scandal that has rocked the institute.

However, at several quarters in the university, the security concerns vis-à-vis the Patan gangrape issue was raised and students belonging to the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) along with MSU Student's Union Secretary Rupesh Prajapati continued pouring in the MSU head office today.

After burning the effigy, they along with Vice-President Hiral Sarvaiya, stormed into the head office and demanded an explanation from Pro-VC S M Joshi for not taking any concrete step over the lax security on the campus. Joshi assured them that the university authorities would speed up the inquiry on the security lapse when the scandal took place.

The students also highlighted the alleged use of Internet by one faculty member to download pornographic content, and demanded an action against him. “Unless the authorities do not pursue the issue of security actively, outsiders will keep causing disruptions on the campus,” said Sarvaiya.

In another set of allegations, Prajapati compared the security of women students in the hostel to the recent Patan issue and asked Joshi the reason for his visit to Girls' Residence after 10 PM on Tuesday.

“We asked him if there was any complaint from the girls' hostel, to which he said there were was none, adding that he has the authority to go and visit anytime. But our concern is that when it is past 10'o clock at night, the girls might find the presence of a male in the hostel uncomfortable,” he said. “If one has to go and check on the security in the campus, it could be done during the day. Why did Pro VC step inside a girls' hostel without any woman warden?” Prajapati added.

Joshi could not be contacted for his comments.
