Annual examination papers of many courses have been scheduled for April 30, the day when Lok Sabha elections will be held in the state, said student leaders.
“The exams should not be called off. These can either be preponed or postponed,” said ABVP leader Divyaraj Sinh.
He said most students will vote in the Lok Sabha polls for the first time and they are in a dilemma to choose between examinations and elections.
“We approached the Vice-chancellor of the university and he has assured us to make change in the exam dates. If he does not cooperate then we first give him an official letter and go on protest of required,” he said.
NSUI leader Indravijaysinh Gohil said, “Most students are first-time voters and if they can’t vote, it will weaken our democracy.”
He said they will give an official letter to the V-C on the issue. And if he fails to take some steps, the university authorities should be ready to face students’ wrath, said
Gohil.
J C Lilani, the Controller- Examinations, Gujarat University, said, “The policy making committee led by the V-C will sort out the matter.”
Kavita Mandovara, a post graduate student, said, “Election is of national significance but I would prefer to give priority to may exams.”
On the other hand, another student Devang Vachharajani said, “I can cast my vote in less than five minutes. So I shall first give vote and then go for my exams.”
