Ludhiana, February 16 The students of Class V were a harassed lot today after they were made to wait in long queues to get their roll numbers. The cards were being issued at the district depot of the Punjab School Education Board today.

The parents and teachers along with students started thronging Punjabi Bhawan in the morning to get their roll numbers.

Talking to Newsline, Rekha Rani, mother of a private candidate, said, "I came to collect the roll number of my daughter. My whole day was wasted in this process. Moreover, my daughter was worried as her roll number did not reach her till yesterday."

Ramesh Kumar, father of another student, said, "It is very difficult to collect roll number just a day before the exam begins. I was suffering from high fever and I had to come, as there was no option. The board should have issued roll numbers at least one week before the exam begins."

A group of teachers on the condition of anonymity said, "It is sad that students of Class V will take their first exam on Monday and we are calling them to take their roll numbers. It is sheer wastage of time."

The roll numbers to the students of affiliated schools were issued today.

However, the roll numbers of recognized, government, private and aided schools were issued yesterday.

There are 333 examination centres in the district and more than 40,000 students will take the exams.
