Kanpur, March 4 Over a hundred students of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, have missed their BSc (Second Year) computer paper due to confusion over the date of examination. According to the schedule announced by the university earlier, the examination was to take place on March 16, but it was conducted on March 2, leaving many students high and dry.

While the university authorities say it had informed its students about the change in the examination schedule, students claim otherwise.

Annoyed over the alleged negligence on part of the university, the students and their parents have forwarded a complaint to Governor T V Rajeswar and Higher Education Minister Rakeshdhar Tripathi demanding a re-examination.

The university had reportedly released the examination schedule on December 26, according to which the computer paper for BSc (II Year) was to be conducted on March 16. Sources said it was announced later that the date had been changed to March 2. The important piece of information, however, did not reach all students. As a result, candidates from Kanpur and surrounding districts, including Kanpur Dehat, Etawah and Auraiya, missed the paper.

Virendra Kumar, a parent, said his daughter and her classmates had no information about the change of examination date. “There was no intimation by post or through newspaper from the university,” he said.

Kiran Singh, a candidate, said hundreds of students from several colleges missed the examination. She said neither their college nor the university intimated them about the change of date.

CSJMU Registrar Mahesh Chandra said though the university was not responsible for the confusion, the matter was being inquired into. He claimed that information about the change of date was posted on the Internet and that students were also informed through post. On the demand of re-examination, he said the university would take a decision on the matter after the inquiry.
