Pune The new points-based system, applicable for students’ visa will enable the United Kingdom to control migration more effectively, will be in place after March 2009, said Steve Mabley, an official from the British Deputy High Commission on Wednesday. Speaking on ‘students visas’ on the second day of ‘Education UK’ exhibition, he added that the system will bring in more transparency and will simplify the process. “Points will be given based on the funding, academics and other criteria of the students with a benchmark assigned so that a student becomes eligible for visa,” Mabley added.

Meanwhile, ‘experience UK’; an online game that took students on a virtual tour of how it is to study and live in UK, was the highlight of the exhibition. During the course of the game, the student gets valuable information related to various courses, admission criteria, fee structures, budgeting and immigration regulations.Apart from this the student also gets exposed to information related to UK such as places of interest, weather, study destinations and five other modules.

Around 1300 students visited the exhibition during the two days during which they got a chance to meet UK representatives from more than 40 universities and institutions.

Students also got to attend talks on various topics like student visas, career-based topics like business and management, biotechnology, IT and engineering and law.

The exhibition that started from Bangalore traveled through Hyderabad, Chennai and before coming to Pune.
