Q. What was it that made Khalsa College for Women, which came into existence in 1958, achieve such standards as reflected in A+ status to the college?
A. It was after the efforts we regularly put in for over a year that we could achieve these standards. We worked hard on the seven parameters incuding infrastructure and courses and other facilities like quality of hostels, on which a college is judged for NAAC accreditation.
Q. How did your experience of being a member of NAAC, Bangalore, benefit you as a principal to acquire these standards?
A. Since I became the member of NAAC, Bangalore, in May 2003, I took notice of what all needs to be done to meet the criteria set for awarding the status. And I think if the management shows the will, it is easy to ensure upgrading the standards that are commensurate with the best as far as NAAC accreditation is concerned.
Q. But many colleges do not even go in for accreditation. What do you think is the reason?
A. I would say that accreditation is really very important and every college should at least know where they stand so that the required improvement can be made to provide quality education couples with the best of facilities.
Q. It has been learnt that you do not carry a mobile phone to the college to set an example among the students? Is that true?
A. I think that I have no right to stop students from using mobile phone in the classrooms or campus if I use it before them. I have even made a request to all the teachers to not use mobile phones in the corridors and only use them in the staff room.
