Sub-jr wushu nationals off to a flying start

Lucknow The 8th National Sub-Junior Wushu Championship commenced mini-stadium at Rajajipuram, Lucknow on Thursday. The championship was inaugurated by Arun Kumar Sinha (IPS). The opening ceremony witnessed an impressive march past by 33 teams from different states of the country and a 45-member team of officials of the Wushu Association of India.

Dr Yogendra Narain, president Wushu Association of India also graced the occasion.

Santosh Kumar and Naveen Yadav who collected a silver and bronze medal, respectively, in the 3rd World Junior Wushu Wushu Championship held at Indonesia from December 7 to 14, 2008, were also honoured on the occasion.

Tributes were also paid to late Anand Kacker who was responsible to a great extent for making the sport of Wushu popular in the country.

It was Kacker’s first death anniversary today.
