Panchkula, February 5 Jamuna Prasad, a labourer who was killed in the collapse of the Lintel of the Mansa Devi entrance gate was the lone breadwinner of the family. His parents blamed the use of substandard material in the construction work for the mishap. Niranjan Kumar, Jamna’s father claimed that a few months ago, the pillars at the entrance gate had developed cracks. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has set up a departmental inquiry in the case.

“Jamna was the only earning hand in the family. Nearly two months ago, the pillar had started shaking. We resumed work after the contractor’s assurance”, said Niranjan Kumar.

Another labourer, Rakesh Kumar claimed that in a break from the trade practice where cement is used in the construction of pillars, stone sand was also used. A departmental was also marked. The CEO, HS Pannu, Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board, said that warnings has been issued to the contracter. He said that the construction of the gate would help devotees. He added that the board was also involved in many other projects.
