Lucknow A senior official with the Dhampur Sugar Mill, Ram Karan Singh, was allegedly burnt to death in his office premises at Bijnor district’s Ranibagh area on Tuesday morning.

His son Arjun has lodged an FIR against the general manager and two deputy cane managers, accusing them of setting Singh on fire over a dispute. The mill management, however, maintained that Singh has committed suicide.

Superintendent of Police O P Sagar said for the last few months, Singh had been trying to get a job for Arjun in the mill and has had arguments with officials over the issue. Earlier, Arjun had been a temporary employee at the mill, but was later removed. “Later in the evening, the mill authorities reached a compromise with Singh’s family and assured to give a job to Arjun. But the FIR has not been withdrawn,” said Sagar.

He added that Singh, who lived in the staff colony on the mill premises, had left home on Tuesday morning and went straight to the first-floor office. “Only the sweeper was present at the floor when Singh was seen enveloped in flames,” said the SP. Singh was rushed to the district hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
