Chandigarh The UT Administration has fresh plans up its sleeve for the revamp of the Sukhna lake as well as the New Lake in Sector 42.

From better illumination to landscaping of the areas surrounding the lakes, there are a number of proposals afoot.

At Sukhna, there are plans to develop the regulator end of the lake.

Fountains are likely to garner the lake as part of the landscaping project.

The area from the Lake Club to bandstand would also be illuminated. Enhancing parking facilities near the lake is also on the agenda.

According to A K Malhotra, general manager, Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation (CITCO), the plan is to develop the other end of the lake.

“The proposal is the brainchild of Home Secretary Ram Niwas. The aim is to decongest parts of the lake to ensure overall development,” he said.

A children’s corner near the Lake Club area proves to be a great attraction for people.

The Administration is also planning to build a reception area at the lake in Sector 42.

These plans had been forwarded to the Centre and a grant of Rs 2.73 crore has also been received.

Work on these proposals is likely to start soon.

The proposal to illuminate the Rose Garden with fancy lights is still awaiting the final nod.
