Khanna The murder case of 18-year-old Pritpal Singh took a new twist on Saturday as the local court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate R K Beri summoned four persons, including an SP of the Punjab Police .

SP Kashmira Singh Bhindar (at present posted at Punjab Armed Police, Mohali), along with other accused Harjit Singh Lakha, Kulwindar Singh Kala and Jatindar Singh, has been summoned to face trial under Section 302, 364 and 34 of the IPC. The accused are said to be residents of Bija, Kaddon village and Mandiala Kalan village respectively. The next date of hearing has been fixed on February 5.

Pritpal Singh, a resident of Bija village, had gone missing on April 30, 2006 while his body was found in the fields near the village on May 2. The victim’s father, Gurbax Singh, had lodged a complaint against the four accused charging them with the murder of his son.

A DDR was registered but no further action was taken in the case. Singh alleged that SP Bhindar held a grudge against him as he had helped one Kamaljit Kaur of Bija village who had filed several complaints against Bhindar, which are still pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

An eyewitness in the case, Harbans Singh, a resident of Panjrukha village, had also recorded his statement with the police but no action was initiated in the case.

In a complaint to the court, Harbans Singh claimed that he had seen the four accused in a car along with victim on April 30, 2006 at liquor vend at Bharthla Mander village. He alleged that Pritpal was sitting on the backseat of the car with his hands tied. Harbans Singh approached the family after reading about the murder in the newspapers.
