The film is adapted from well-known writer Suchitra Bhattacharjee’s Rangeen Prithibi, centering on Kolkata’s film industry. “Sunny plays someone who brings a ray of hope in the lives of the other characters in the film,” Arjun informs. “I met him through my producer Sudhir Ahuja and narrated the story to him. Not only did he agree at once but he also refused to take a payment for his role. We shot his portion at his Juhu residence in Mumbai and in his father Dharmendra’s car,” adds the director.
Post Apne, Deol has decided to start his innings afresh and also revitalise his film production company, Vijeta Films. As a step in this direction, Deol has announced a batch of four films in the first phase. Kabeer Kaushik will direct Chamku, which will star Bobby Deol, Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Irfaan Khan and Rajpal Yadav. Monty Sharma will score the music of this film.
Vijeta Films will be producing three other films in 2008. Among these is Man, directed by Deol himself (after Dillagi) and Neeraj Pathak jointly, and will star Deol and Shilpa Shetty in the lead. Deols’ favorite Anil Sharma will direct Masters, which will bring the family—Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby—together yet again after Apne.
Then there’s Chumantar, directed by Rumi Jafferi, who’s currently directing
God Tussi Great Ho. Chumantar will star the two brothers—Sunny and Bobby—in principal roles.
Deol seems set to have a sunny year.
