New Delhi, February 5 Barack Obama was rubbing shoulders with Robert De Niro at a rally in New Jersey but he'd be glad to know that there were quite a few Americans walking into Ploof in south Delhi to cast their vote for him. Super Tuesday saw a flurry of activity at the restaurant with the Democrats Abroad India team working furiously as they ushered voters upstairs.

"This is a historical election, Americans are politically more aware than before. When you're living outside the US you get a better sense of global politics. Keeping that in mind, I will cast my vote for Obama," says Adotei Akwei. He's in line with a host of Obama supporters who feel that the senator from Illinois can affect change.

Donald Greenberg, 52, believes that Obama is the Man of the Hour. "He knows what it is to live outside America. He's been able to build bridges between people from different backgrounds and the country needs a leader like him," he says. What about the argument about Obama's lack of experience in the international political arena? "In an interview Obama said he wanted to work with people who were willing to disagree with him, that shows that he understands the importance of dialogue and discussion before taking a decision," says Sue Hudson of North Carolina who is working with the Church of North India in Delhi.

While support for Obama was significantly high amongst the Delhi Democrats, Hillary Clinton too had her band of loyalists.

Amongst her enthusiastic supporters was Anjali Kaur, who works as a public health consultant with the World Bank. "I had been waiting for Hillary Clinton to contend for years, and I do think her previous experience in the White House will stand her in good stead. As somebody who works in public health, I am particularly keen on her universal health insurance coverage scheme," she said. Having said that though, Kaur did admit that even if Obama were to be the Democrat nominee, she would be happy as long as there was a Democrat in the White House.

Reema, an Indian American working with a non-profit organisation in Delhi, brought along her mother so that they could cast their votes together for Clinton. "It's time we had a woman in the White House," she said when asked why she had voted for Clinton. Mirroring the situation in America, there was a group of voters sitting in a corner who were still unsure about whom they wanted to cast their votes for.
