One Bhavesh Patel of Matawadi, also a diamond merchant, introduced Jogani to two diamond businessmen, Sevantilal Shah and Kalpesh Dahisarwala.
Sewantilal claimed to run a diamond office by the name of Sashi Enterprise in Opera house in Mumbai. Kalpesh owned a diamond office in Opera house.
In his complaint to the Varachha Police, Jogani said, Sewantilal and Kalpesh purchased diamonds and made payments before due time with the intention of gaining trust. Later they purchased diamonds of higher carat promising to make the payment in a couple of months, which they never made.
Jogani said he sold 82.21 carat diamonds worth Rs. 7.60 lakh to Sewantilal and 68.69 carat diamonds worth Rs. 8.81 lakh to Kalpesh, seven months ago. He said he waited for some months before asking for the payment. He also went to Mumbai and tried to contact them, but the two accused always tried to avoid him. Finally Jogani lodged a cheating complaint against them with the Varachha Police.
Police inspector J A Jadeja said, "We have got the bills of the diamonds sold to Mumbai based diamond merchants Kalpesh and Sewantilal. We will send our teams to Mumbai for investigation. The two Mumbai based businessmen had made small business deals earlier with Jogani but during that time they made payments in advance. Later they purchased diamonds of higher carat and failed to make the payment. Bhavesh told us that duo posed themselves as a diamond exporter and they had come to Surat to purchase good quality ofdiamonds.
