The dipping temperature has affected the daily routine of many people and most of them preferred to stay indoors instead of braving the chill. The persisting cold wave has so far claimed five lives in the city in the last 15 days. On Friday, a body of 55-year-old man was spotted on a footpath in the Katargam area by some passers-by, who informed the police. It was later sent to SMIMER Hospital for a post-mortem, which suggested that the death was caused by the cold wave.
None of the five bodies could be identified and all the deceased were above 50 years of age. District Education officer K R Zanzrukia said, “The school-going children are also affected by the fall in temperature and I have requested the school authorities to delay their morning session by one hour. There are around 1,700 schools in the district and we have passed the information to all the schools.”
