The Quartet, comprising Yuka Tsuboi (violin), Sarah Kilchenmann (violin), David Schneebeli (viola) and Julien Kilichenmann (violoncello) has won prestigious awards in Europe during its three-year existence so far.
It has also performed widely in Switzerland and in countries like Japan, Italy, Austria, France, Germany and Armenia.
These four musicians will not only play pieces of Western music stalwarts like Jean-Luc Darbellay, Wüthrich-Mathez, Frank Martin, Ludwig V Beethoven and W A Mozart, but also attempt playing compositions of poet Rabindranath Tagore.
“Tagore reflected epitome of human love in his poetry, painting and philosophy. Be it love for the country, earth, nature, the creator or plain love for the beloved, Tagore said it all. What better contribution can a Swiss quartet give on the occasion of 60 years of friendship between the two nations than offer a Tagore song as an encore?” Swiss Ambassador to New Delhi Dr Dominique Dreyer told The Indian Express over phone on Friday.
The six-evening concerts will be organised by the Swiss Embassy at Sandre Hall Calcutta School of Music (February 8), Auditorium Alliance Francaise de Bangalore (February 10), ITC Hotel at Hyderabad (February 12), Panjim Church in Goa (February 14), Lotus Temple in New Delhi (February 16) and Annie Besant Hall at Theosophical Society in Varanasi (February 18).
In Varanasi, the 80-minute concert is being organised in association with Indian Section of Theosophical Society and Kriti Art Gallery.
The Swiss Ambassador added, “To mark the occasion, the Swiss minister for economic affairs, along with a business delegation, will also visit the country to explore prospects of bilateral trade ties.”
A fashion show will also be organised as part of the celebrations, which will go on throughout 2008, he added.
