“We are ready with the syllabus. As the board of studies has people from industry, it is made according to the need of the industry. Moreover, we are adding liberal arts subjects in the syllabus so that the students will have an all round development. The courses will be a blend of hardcore engineering subjects with subjects like foreign languages, English Literature and some management studies,” said Vidya Yerawadekar, joint director of Symbiosis International University.
“Initially, we are planning to start with mechanical, computer science, information technology and electronics and telecommunication courses. We will offer BTech degrees in these disciplines. We have received the letter of intent from All India Council of Technical Education and they will visit the campus in April. We have around 300 acres of land at Lavale and SIT campus will be spread over 17 acres,” she said.
“We are trying to create leaders and not just technocrats. In fact we are looking at bridging up the gap between IITs and local engineering colleges. For that matter, we will have almost 50 per cent of faculty from the industry,” said Yerawadekar.
