Symbiosis, Wawasan open varsity sign MoU

Pune The Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with Wawasan Open University, Malaysia for academic collaborations. According to the provisions of MoU, the expert academicians of SCDL will be teaching the Malaysian students online.

Chancellor of Symbiosis International University S B Mujumdar and vice-chancellor and CEO of Wawasan University G Dhanarajan signed the MoU. The MoU will also work in areas like mutually developing course content, supporting postgraduate research, developing credit transfer arrangements and starting new academic programmes. Both the institutes are private sector providers of distance learning with SCDL having a strength of over 2 lakh students. Wawasan is Malaysia’s first private open university.

wati Mujumdar, director of SCDL, said that the collaboration will benefit both the institutes. “We have 15 programmes covering 130 courses. The MoU will help the faculty get international exposure. The MoU is also for co-sponsoring seminars, training workshops, offering joint academic programmes and developing services for lifelong learning,” she said.

“The learners can use innovative methods developed by both the institutes. There is also a provision for reviewing the process after a certain period,” said Dhanarajan.
