Symposium on Phycology ends at Punjabi University

Patiala A two-day national symposium on ‘Phycology in India: Basic to Applied’, organised by the Department of Botany of the Punjabi University, Patiala, concluded on Friday.

Over 100 scientists and students from across the country attended the symposium.

During the seminar it was recommended that technologies, particularly for treating chromium waste and dye industry effluents, by utilising micro-algae be developed.

Besides, basic studies in Phycology to understand the molecular aspects of stress tolerance; suitable approaches to taxonomy; genomics and sequencing of important eukaryotic microalgae need to be taken up on a large scale in various institutions.
