Pune
While the University of Pune’s year-old-plan to start a translation academy is yet to see the light of the day, Bhalchandra Nemade, eminent writer and critic and national fellow of Indian Institute of Advanced Study urged the students to take up translation activity seriously and on a large scale. He said, “In my opinion, Indian English writing cannot flourish given that it is not the root language of the country. However, translation can have a soothing effect.” Nemade was present for the inauguration of a national level seminar on ‘Indian writing in English and in English translation’ organised by UoP’s department of English that was also attended by VC Narendra Jadhav.
