Pune The University of Pune (UoP) will conduct entrance examinations for its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) courses. This will ensure a streamlined, uniform admission process across colleges.

The entrance will be on May 17, the university’s academic council decided on Friday.

Several institutes are offering BBA and BCA courses at high fees, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000, and admitting as many students as they can. “Now, the university will conduct the entrance, which will at least set a benchmark for the process,” a council member said.

BBA and BCA courses are much in demand, considered stepping-stones for admission to management courses. Many institutes have started such courses, but the admission process was not being monitored.

The academic council also withdrew a decision to introduce a semester system for Master’s courses in mental and moral sciences and the Commerce stream.

“The teacher-students ratio is not enough to introduce such a system. It was feared that the teachers would be burdened by examination-related duties for the whole year if a semester system is introduced. Teachers made a strong demand to withdraw the decision,” said the council member.

The council also accepted the Gajanan Ekbote Committee report that has made amendments in the statutes of the university to motivate more and more colleges to go for autonomous status.
