After bringing the golden era of Hindi songs to stage with the musical drama Black and White, Niche Entertainment launches its second venture Ghazal Ka Safar

Ghazals are all set to find new expressions. Narrating the riveting tale of journey of ghazals in the city will be singers who will take the audiences down the memory lane. After the success of Black and White, a musical drama that revived the golden era of Hindi songs, Niche Entertainment is launching its second venture which will be touring the globe this year.

Providing a musical visage to the poetry of the maestros and reintroducing the most popular light classical musical form to the audiences would be the show Ghazal Ka Safar which with live renditions will appease the senses of its audiences. All set to tour UK in the coming moth the show has been conceptualised by theatre person Salim Arif. “Ghazal Ka Safar is conceived as a show which would revisit the evolution of this form of poetry and recall some popular master pieces through live rendition on stage,” says Arif.

The show features poets like Mir Taqi Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Daagh Dehlvi, Momin Khan Momin, Akbar Allahabadi, Makhdoom Mohiddeen and Ahmad Faraaz among others. The show promises to be a riveting treat for ghazal lovers who have been feeding their love for ghazals on recorded versions since long. The live spectacle of their favourite genre of music is what the show has on offer for them. The show also showcases some of the popular compositions over the years sung by several eminent artistes like Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali,Begum Akhtar and Jagjit Singh to name a few. It also recognises the contribution of ghazals from Hindi films in films like Bazaar, Umrao Jaan and of course the Lata-MadanMohan duo.

“A common and popular form of music in the sub-continent, ghazal is also a poetic recitation. However, today it is commonly conceived of as an Urdu song whose prime importance is given to the lyrics. Here our aim was especially to pay a tribute to the poets that is why we came up with this concept,” says Milind Oak, director. The show is presented by singers Swarada Gokhale-Godbole and Dattaprasad Ranade. The script has been written and presented by stage personality Salim Arif.
