The model-turned-actor is all set to play don on the small screen

Crime and Bollywood, how similar is this TV series to real-life?
The only thing in common with the show and real life criminals is the crime itself. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think it is based on any real personalities.

What’s the show about?
The show is about crime and its influence on India, particularly Bombay and the Indian film industry. I will know more when I begin shooting for it in February. I chose to do it because the producer made a good impression of his intention and my contract was fulfilled. When I met the director I knew that we have a chance to make this experience positively wonderful.

You play a don in the serial. What is your character called?
I play the lead role. I cannot reveal my name as of now. Well, my name is inconsequential in comparison to the havoc I wreak.

You did a Telugu film called Don No 1 last year. Are there any similarities?
Don No 1 was the biggest hit of the year in the South. I love playing antagonistic roles. That is my forte. But there are no similarities, they are different makers too.

How do you like it on the small screen?
I hosted a show on television with Lisa Ray a few years ago. Then I also did a serial called Josh for Star Plus. It was a limited experience, but then it makes me feel that I am not new to television. I do things on my own terms and having seen the incredible teamwork in putting the crime series together, I’m happy to be associated with it.

How have you evolved from being a model to being an actor?
Since I was eight, I wanted to become a good actor. So I taught myself. Apart from amateur theatre and real life, I had little experience. But modeling did help me shape my career. What the two professions have in common for me is the feeling of belonging and an opportunity to be in front of the camera.

What are your upcoming projects?
Since I started a year ago, I have signed a lot of Telugu films. I have four more in the pipeline. I just finished Billa in Telugu and a film with Nagarjuna. A film called Drona in Telugu will release in January. I’m also awaiting a few more projects with actors like Venkatesh.
Another film called Lahore is due for release in February.
