Dutta was released from Presidency Jail in Kolkata following an order passed by the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday.
Hundreds of CPM supporters were seen waiting outside the jail premises on Friday morning. After his release, Dutta went to the CPM district committee office in Serampore. He then visited the party zonal committee office in Singur. The last time he had come to the office was around 18 months ago. The victory rally, which began from the zonal committee office, ended in Bura Shanti Bazar.
Addressing mediapersons, Dutta said: “I have fought for setting up an industry in Singur as it will benefit the people. I will do the same now as it will generate employment for locals.” He added he was ready to take on other responsibilities given to him by the party.
Dutta, however, refused to comment on the Tapasi Malik murder case. “I will not say anything now. I need not make any comment after the remarks made by Biman Bose following the High Court order on Wednesday,” he said.
After the court order on Wednesday, Bose had reportedly said: “Dutta is innocent. He was implicated in the murder case and false charges were levelled against him.”
Dutta was the secretary of the CPM Zonal Committee in Singur when the CBI arrested him in June 2007. The party did not remove him after his arrest. For the 18-odd months he was in jail, another party member, Amar Chakraborty, carried out Dutta’s duties.
