It appeared as if Altafuddin Ahmed and Mohammad Mokhtar would rise above their foreign team mates, stitching together passes from the left flank and centre, but it were the two Nigerians who hit the scoresheet again. Henry’s brace took his account to six out of the eight goals Sangha have netted in the super league .

In the first 45 minutes against City FC though, it was the Indian pair who helped Sangha dominate the proceedings, despite Henry drawing first blood after Figo was downed by Sohrab Khan inside the box. Mokhtar’s first impression was a pass from the left that eluded Sohrab and Henry comfortably beat goalkeeper Nitin Kumar.

Altaf, meanwhile, kept feeding the forwards along with Mokhtar but most of the moves ended in misdirected shots. But for keeping the rest at bay in the first half, Kumar’s work under the bar — as he fended off recurring strikes from Henry and Figo— was also acclaimed.

On changing ends, Mokhtar and Altaf were given added responsibilities to protect the lead.
