Kolkata Metro services were disrupted for about four hours on Monday following some technical glitches, causing much inconvenience to hundreds of daily commuters. The services came to a halt at Esplanade metro station at around 3:40 pm, when the third rail line which supplies the 750 volt power snapped.

Services in the Esplanade section were stopped for 40 minutes till the line was repaired and services were resumed at 4:26 pm. Till then, truncated services were carried out between Girish Park and Dum Dum in the north and Maidan and Kavi Nazrul in the south.

However, barely 12 minutes after resumption of services, the trains came to a halt at the Tollygunj metro rail yard at 4:38 pm, due to identical technical problems. Services were withheld till 6 pm and even after the trains started moving after 6 pm, only truncated services were on between Maidan and Dum Dum and all trains were stopped between Tollygunj and Kavi Nazrul stations. All this resulted in tremendous harassment for commuters. Almost km-long queues for tickets were formed in front of the affected metro stations.
