Chandigarh, March 3 As the city passport office’s website, passport.chd.nic.in faces technical glitches, the city’s residents are a harassed lot. Though the officials from the passport office claim that they have been regularly updating the website, new passport applicants have a different story to narrate.

Besides not being able to check their passport application status, the applicants are also facing problems while going through the various links in the website. Complainant Ishwer Singh, a resident of Sector 44 says, “I have been trying to know the status of my passport since the past one week, but the website is not functioning and the officials have no answer. Most of the time the site does not open at all and even when it does, the status cannot be known”. Adding to this, Gagan, a Sector 28 resident said, “I have applied for a course abroad and my papers have gotten stuck as I haven’t received my passport yet. I have tried checking the status online but no luck.”

The officials in the passport office admit that the website has been facing problems since quite a few days now. Vitul Kumar, Regional Passport Officer, commented, “We have been receiving complaints and the repair work is already in progress. The Delhi website is facing similar problems and the inconvenience is regretted at our end.”

Further to this, no intimation regarding the website not functioning properly has been issued by the passport officials.

Recently the passport officials had also started with the facility of issuing passports within four days. At present though, the passport office is trying its best to contend with the increased number of applications and queries, and there is a lot to be dealt with.
