Teenager commits suicide

Zirakpur A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide after hanging himself from the ceiling fan at Saini Vihar Phase-III in Baltana on Friday afternoon. Sukhdeep, a Class X student of Kendriya Vidyalya, Sector 29, Chandigarh, was found hanging by his mother and sister when they returned home from the market, police said.

In the absence of any suicide note, the police have initiated inquest proceedings into the case. The deceased is survived by his mother and two elder sisters.

Mohali centre first to get GLP certification
MOHALI
: The National Toxicology Centre (NTC) at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Mohali has been approved for Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) compliance by the National GLP Compliance Monitoring Authority of Union Department of Science and Technology, said an official release on Friday. The approval makes National Toxicology Centre the first government centre in the country to have GLP certification.

The certification will facilitate the testing of new chemical entities (NCEs) for regulatory submission by different pharmaceutical industry and academia, apart from making use of the facility in internal research projects.
