Kolkata The CID today produced Maoist Telegu Deepak in the ACJM Court, Khatra in Bankura district, for his involvement in a five-year-old murder case. The ACJM court asked the CID to complete the investigation within three months, instead of their plea for four months.

The judge, Fatik Chandra Mondal, meanwhile, remanded Deepak in jail custody for 14 days. Advocate Samir Das, counsel of Deepak, said the CID has implicated Deepak in the case with false charges when he was not named in the FIR.

Public Prosecutor S A Rehman said the CID would place the related documents in the court. On July 10 2005, Probal Sengupta, officer-in-charge of the Barikul police station was killed by the Maoists. The Maoists had gunned down two CPM leaders at Majgeria village, near the police station. Sengupta had rushed to the spot after the incident. He found a leather bag lying beside the house of Ragunath Murmu, who was killed by the Maoists. When Sengupta picked up the bag and unzipped it, the bag exploded. Sengupta died on the spot and 16 policemen were also injured.
