The vehicle was ferrying members of a Patel family for a family function at a nearby village.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 8 am when the tempo, number GJQ 13 6564, had just started on its journey from Ranpur village. The truck had covered hardly a kilometre and reached the bridge when a truck appeared from the opposite side. The tempo driver tried to veer off, but lost control and crashed into the river.
Two women, Sharda Patel (40) and Savita Patel (70), were killed on the spot while some 50 others, including men, women and children received injuries. The injured were hospitalised at the public health centre in Bhesan town and later shifted to the Junagadh Civil Hospital for further treatment. Emergency ambulance services were immediately pressed into action after the accident to provide timely treatment to the injured, sources said.
