Chandigarh A group of 27 students, in the city as part of the India Sadbhavana tour from Kashmir, believe that terrorism in the Valley has torn apart its youths.

These students from the Government College in Baramulla are on a 14-day all India tour, an initiative of the Indian Army, to spread the message of peace.

“It is us who have suffered the most—youth in the Valley have been torn apart by terrorism. They have been denied so many things, including proper education and jobs, for no fault of their's,” said a student, Rizwan.

The students visited the Panjab University and met Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti.

The students who went around the university after interacting with the faculty said they were amazed with the range of professional courses and infrastructure the university provides.

Another student Akeel said: “We do not have any such infrastructure as we have seen in Panjab University. Colleges in Kashmir provide limited academic options. We lost our childhood to terrorism but do not want to lose our youth.”

The students also went around the City Beautiful.

Besides Chandigarh, the group will be visiting Delhi, Lucknow and Dehradun among other states.

Also the students visited Mohali stadium.

Two teachers who too are fascinated by the facilities present here in the city accompany the group.

Shazad Muzaffar, Director Physical Education, who is accompanying the students said: “Such tours should be encouraged and it is a great step by the Indian Army. Our message to the country is that peace needs to be restored in the Valley.”
