Addressing a meeting of leading industrialists organised by, Ramesh Joshi, the Chairman of the Urban Development Cell of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Tewari also appealed the young and educated people to come out to vote. He pointed out, it has been found that the people who have the most understanding of issues and problems seldom come to the vote. Moreover, he said, the young have not developed much interests in politics which was not good.

The AICC secretary criticised the SAD-BJP government in the state and the previous National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre blaming it for the problems faced by the industry in the state. He claimed that it was the UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh which has ensured that the common man was not hit by the global economic crisis. “It is the great vision of our Prime Minister duly supported by the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, which saved the country from economic crisis”, Tewari said, while promising that the UPA government will usher in a second phase of progress and development after it returns to power at the Centre.

Making an appeal to the people in general and the industrialists in particular, he said, they must vote for the Congress for its performance and reject the SAD-BJP alliance for its non performance.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Knitwear Club, Vinod Thapar pointed out, it was Tewari who had helped the industry to get the excise duty waived off from the Centre which had been imposed by the NDA government. He said, Tewari had done so much for the people and industry in Ludhiana despite having lost the previous elections. “Imagine what he will do for his constituency once he wins,” he said.
