As many as 1800 lawyers had boycotted work for a week in Thane district following a decision to set up session and civil court (senior division) at Bhiwandi.“The policy decision to set up new courts at Bhiwandi was taken by the High Court in 1998-99. Setting up of new courts is based on the number of litigations in a region,” said Narayan Iyer, advocate from Bhiwandi. He also said that bar association of Bhiwandi would be kept in the loop, if there is any move to reconsider the decision of the High Court to set up new courts at Bhiwandi. “So far, there are no such indications and the new courts are expected to start as per the schedule,” said advocate Iyer.
