Employees look forward to Fridays as many corporate offices make it interesting through theme parties, dress codes and games

The usual busy week at the corporate office… with deadlines to keep, files to be maintained, clients to be kept happy, grumbling about stubborn bosses and nosy colleagues. Thus, you hardly have time to breathe. Finally comes Friday, the day all, employers and employees alike, longs for, the day when the tiresome week comes to an end, the day which promises us two refreshing ones on the other side, the day time runs a little fast.

Friday, at the corporate offices is welcomed in an unusual way, with loads of fun, frolic and laughter. For companies like Blue Lotus, Ocean Connects, Friday is "Freaky". Friday events are serious business with them, allocating time, money and resources to re-energize employees and help them bond together with colleagues and the organisation.

Employees at Blue Lotus host Freaky Friday just once a month. Christened and conceptualised by the HR team, Freaky Friday brings along with it loads of fun, frolic and laughter. They have activities like Colour Coded Attires where the employees come to office, all dressed in the same coloured attire. Walking Billboards, where the employee comes to office with a white sheet pasted on their back, and others are expected to write comments about the wearer. "The comments are usually positive and helps us bond well with each other, says N Chandramouli, CEO of Blue Lotus Communication. These comments are then displayed in their cabins.

Some other activities includes community lunch, where one particular employee has to bring lunch for the entire organisation, Rotating Crown where the HR gives a crown and bouquet to one employee, who has to answer why he/she deserves it. They then pass it on another employee.

Some companies like Bajaj Alliance have such fun filled days just once a year. In addition, on Saturdays the employees comes to office dressed in casuals.

Companies like Oceans Connect, host events like Friday Dress Down Day, where the employees comes to office dressed in casuals, then there is the Accessories Day, Red Colour Day, where every one, from the head to the sweeper has to come dressed in red colored attire. There are also prizes to be won for the best looking and the best-dressed male or female.

Jennifer Sebastian even plans to have days like back to school days, where the employee are expected to come to work, dressed as if they are back to their school. Twins Days where two or more employees will come dressed alike as peas, Rock Star Day where the employees have to come dressed as rock stars, but of course they are expected to dress decently.

Recently increasing number of companies has started earmarking Friday as fun days as part of fun at work initiative. The objective is to ensure that employees end their week on a happy note. As far affecting the workflow is concerned, Chandramouli, says "Work is affected, but in a positive way". Variety is the name of the game and any routine activity can make the workers at the offices reach a saturation point. Corporates have realised that such celebration for couple of hours or so helps in breaking the monotony at work, and make the atmosphere more relaxed. Such breaks do go a long way and make a big difference for the companies in the future.

"These activities help us come closer; not just as team members in the city, but as colleagues from different offices, who get a chance to share their joy with one another," says Ishani Nigudkar from Blue Lotus communications.
