The show was followed by a generous dose of poll details. The venue was Lalit Hall of the College of Art & Craft at Lucknow University and the event was the I Count camp organised by The Indian Express to make undergraduates develop interest in electoral process.
The aim was to provide an answer to every doubt and offer a solution to each problem relating to election that one is likely to face.
In association with the Janaagrah, an NGO dedicated to the cause of building democratic awareness among youths, the I Count camp was an opportunity for young visitors to even apply for registration as a voter and get the voter ID card.
“Students are eager to become a part of the mainstream and what better way than joining the poll process? We are happy to be associated with The Indian Express in this youth empowerment initiative that is mobilising youth towards nation building,” said P Rajivanayan, Principal of the College of Arts & Craft.
What should be the basis to choose a candidate and what if one doesn’t vote — These were some of the queries posed by the students. Most of them were disillusioned by the “dismal result” of the choice they had made in the previous polls. There were others who discussed the repercussions of not exercising the franchise, more so, when the country’s educated people abstains from voting. A large number of youths who took part at the camp were eligible to vote but did not possess their voter ID cards. So they were provided with voter registration forms and they also availed the facility of online registration. With the Lok Sabha polls nearing, everyone appreciated the I Count camp for its cause of empowering the country’s youth.
