Chandigarh After remaining 4 notches high this winter, temperature dips 2 degrees below normal

Showers brought the chill back on Wednesday with the day temperature dipping by four degrees. While the winter saw the mercury three to four degrees above normal this year, the temperature was two degrees below normal on Wednesday.

Spells of rain that started on Tuesday night and were experienced on Wednesday brought down the temperature to 20 degrees Celsius from 24 degrees.

Officials of the Meteorological department have predicted partly cloudy sky for the next two days. A few spells of rain may be experienced due to fresh western disturbances. The night temperature is likely to dip by around two degrees.

While January was relatively warm this year, the past week had seen temperatures rise due to the formation of clouds. With the rains in the plains and snow in the hills, residents can expect winters to continue for some more time.

Power woes in Mohali
MOHALI: Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Mohali and Kharar on Tuesday night and Wednesday. While it came as a welcome relief for farmers in the region, the rains, accompanied by hailstorm, disrupted normal life. Parts of Mohali remained powerless for 14 hours. Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Senior Executive Engineer H S Boparai said the supply to some pockets remained suspended due to a technical snag. The downpour, however, broke the long spell of dry weather and brought smiles on the faces of wheat growers. The standing wheat crop, which is presently in a crucial stage of maturing, is expected to grow more with the rains. “A couple of more such spells of rain will prove to be a boon,” said Raghbeer Singh of Santemajra village.
