She started writing at an age when children know little beyond plays and parties. Penning a short story while in Class X, the young writer, Dr Puneet Bedi, has now graduated to being the Principal of MCMDAV College for Women, Chandigarh.

A teacher by profession, Dr Bedi had a flair for writing ever since she was a child. “I was a very sensitive child. Whenever I saw something heart rendering around me, I always expressed it by penning it down on paper,” says Bedi.

Dr Bedi wrote her first short story Cheer Ka Pedh at a very young age.

“The story was based on the psychology of an old retiring couple and their apprehensions,” says the principal.

With age, her passion for writing grew and many books containing short stories by her were published.

Among them, Dorahe Par, Ikisvi Shatabdi, Adhunikta Bodh Ke Naye Aayam and Sirf Paanch Pratichat brought her laurels and also won her critical acclaim.

Dr Bedi also writes poems that are published in magazines from time to time.

Nowadays, however, she is unable to devote time to her hobby owing to a busy schedule.

“At the moment, I am completely dedicated to my college. Post-retirement, I will work on my passion,” she beams.

With age, the writer in Dr Bedi has also matured.

“As a child, I wrote on the elderly and aged. Now, I want to write on the younger generation,” she concludes.
