The brain behind this event was of the Indian Association of Teachers of French (IATF), with the patronage of the French embassy.
Jaya Gadgil,Pune Head of IATF's National Executive Committee says,"The aim behind this mega event was to promote and encourage French diction, pronunciation and the culture amongst the French learning students in India."
Pune made its presence felt with the participation of three students at the event in Hyderabad. One of the finalists, Shweta Gosh , a student of Alliance Francaise and currently pursuing Arts at Fergusson sang to the French number of Ma Philosophie (My philosophy), while the other two finalists, Sameer Patwardhan and Priyanaka Deo, diploma students at Ranade Institute , rendered a duet.
Prior to entering in the finals, there were filtering rounds held in the selected zones across India . In Pune, the competition was conducted by the Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, wherein there were participants from 25 colleges in the city.
The competition was with a different taste as it had Indian students listening to groovy French numbers. "French is fun. No boring grammar" says Gadgil. Preparation for the finals was not an easy task though, "I had to rehearse everyday with my teachers and take good care of my throat throughout the competition," laughs Gosh. "The ambience of the competition however was enthralling and peppy," says Patwardhan. While for Deo, "It was a great learning experience."
Gosh being a finalist says, "Though I didn't win, I had lots of good memories to take back home." Also, the diversity among the students added to the fun, as Sameer says, "Apart from the competition, I made a lot of friends from all over India." Asked if they would participate the next time, all of the three were more than happy to go for it.
