Soon after the by-election results were declared, Gautam alleged that infighting and the lack of interest shown by the senior party leaders lead to the poor show.
“My partymen have betrayed me. They worked for the SP and the BSP,” said Gautam. He claimed that he was heavily banking on the SCs and STs who comprise around 50,000 votes. “A majority of them preferred to stay back home,” he said.
“None of the senior party leaders came out to campaign for me, except Ritaji (state party president). I had requested Rahulji. But forget about him, even leaders like Digvijay Singh and Pramod Tiwari also did not bother to come here,” Gautam said.
