What do a brawny fitness trainer from Jammu, an Uttarakhand farmer, a Kolkata DJ and a Gauhati model have in common? They are all part of a new reality show Sarkaar Ki Duniya where Ashutosh Rana plays the role of a benevolent dictator goading the participants into transforming the island. Breaking away from the usual talent hunt and reality dance shows, Sarkaar Ki Duniya premieres March 2, 10 pm on the Real channel, a new venture by Miditech. On the lines of the fictionalized American drama Lost 18 contestants from diverse backgrounds will live on this remote island in South India run by Ashutosh Rana aka Sarkaar. “The show tests the faculties of the contestants, all ordinary people from different walks of life. Ashutosh plays the role of a dictator who in a way helps the contestants into maximizing their potential,” says Chandramouli Basu, Programming Head at Miditech.

The contestants, ranging from a Bengali actor to a bar dancer strike it out on the island with the tasks as well the environment, building a well in the first week, creating a vegetable patch, to even tending buffaloes and cooking their own meals. “The whole system over there is a reflection of the real world. The contestants chosen have clearly defined personalities and represent the socio-economic and cultural diversity of the country,” says Basu. And, of course, the last man surviving will win a cash prize of Rs 1 crore. The show will air from Monday to Friday at 10 pm, on the Real Channel.
