The mystery is deepening day by day and the police have no idea who murdered my husband. If the law enforcers are unable to deal with crimes against their own men, what can one expect of cases where common men are the victims? It is a shame on the entire force... they continue to grope in the dark about the murder of their own inspector.

Nearly eight months after Singh, an inspector with the UT Police, was found brutally murdered, the investigation in the case seems to be heading for nowhere.

The family of the slain inspector, including his wife and five children, three of them girls, are aggrieved at the fact that the force has no clue about the murderers of their own man. What adds insult to injury is the fact that his son has not been given the job that he was promised on compassionate grounds.

“His son is waiting for a job. Moreover, the suspense behind the murder is killing and we have nowhere to go,” says Khushi Ram, a nephew of Singh.

Unidentified men had attacked the inspector with stones, leading to his death. Two stones with blood stains were found near Singh’s parked motorcycle on the road leading to Dadumajra village.

“We are working on all angles in the list of unsolved murders and carrying thorough investigations. We are close to finding clues in the murder of the inspector and when we have committed ourselves to provide his son a job, we will surely fulfill our promise,” said Inspector General of Police S K Jain.

This is not a lone case of its kind. Out of the 17 murders in the city in 2008, the police are clueless about at least five. Moreover, out of the 88 murders witnessed in the city since 2004, 10 have been marked as untraced while investigations are pending in at least eight. “Our investigations are on” is what the police have to say in all the unsolved cases last year.

April 22, 2008:The body of a woman found in a dump near Kisan Mandi close to the railway track in Ram Darbar Phase 2. The woman was charred beyond recognition. The CFSL experts managed to reconstruct the face of the victim and the police subsequently flashed her photos in nearby areas. Till date, the victim’s identity and the reason for her murder have not been ascertained. “We have not yet identified the body and are yet to lay hands on any clue but we are investigating,” said Bhupinder Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sector-31 police station.

August 19, 2008:The body of 42-year-old Radha Dhunia found under mysterious circumstances in a deserted area between Colony Number 4 and Darua village. She was strangulated with her own dupatta and her clothes had been torn. An employee with a factory in the Industrial Area, Dhunia is survived by three daughters and a son. “We are probing all angles, including illicit relations of the victim, as one. But nothing is clear till now, we can only say that the investigations are on,” said Inspector Yashpal Sharma, SHO, Industrial Area police station.

November 21, 2008-Police station Sector 11:A charred body recovered from Film City area in Sarangpur village. The victim had been murdered and his body burnt to destroy the evidence, the police had said. The body, burnt beyond recognition, was found from a gutter. Later, the police along with the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) experts claimed the victim was a male. His face was reconstructed and police had flashed the photo to other stations.
