Till about two days back, their band’s name was Kamphor. “And then it hit us - it sounds like the water camper,” the boys quickly scrambled around for something that was rock-solid, and not too fluid in nature. It had to have all the elements of rock, capture its existence, the theory behind, and so came about, ‘Otheo’. This five-member band of boys from Vivek High School with their new name got all set to rock the audience in their maiden performance at the Punjab Gold Cup. “It’s between two matches,” smiles the drummer, Aseem Singh Halwarvi of Class VIII, who also enjoys the distinction of being one of the two drummers of the school. “The other one is Class X,” he says as his fellow budding rockers Harsh VS Thakur, Kunwarbir Singh, Pukhraj Singh Brar - all Class XI students and Mansher Singh Grover of Class VIII jump in. While Harsh’s the vocalist and accompanying guitarist, Kunwar’s the lead guitarist, Pukhraj’s on base guitar and Mansher’s on the keyboards. Quiz them why they chose rock - “it’s fun, and a creative expression. You can loosen up, enjoy the music, be yourself and above all, feel like a rockstar,” they quip, looking dashing in their attire - traditional kurtas, jeans and turbans, courtesy the designer among them, Mansher.
