Theft at Mazgaon jewellery store

Mumbai, February 24 Gold ornaments worth an estimated Rs 34 lakh were stolen from a jewellery store in Mazgaon late Saturday night or in the wee hours of Sunday. The Byculla police, who have registered a case of break-in and theft, are yet to ascertain the identities of the thieves.

The theft took place at Raj Jewellers located on Mahatherpakadi Road in Mazgaon. According to the police, unidentified persons broke into the shop some time between 8.30 pm on Saturday and early Sunday morning.

“It is a small 10 square feet shop, with another smaller three cornered room attached to it. At 8.30 pm on Saturday, the owner of the shop Prakash Raj Kapur Solanki (55) downed shutters for the day and locked the entrance. In the morning, he arrived at 9.15 am, opened the lock and entered to find all the gold ornaments kept in the shop robbed,” said Assistant Police Inspector A Madi of the Byculla police station.

“The thieves had broken in by cutting through an iron grill in the smaller room where an air conditioner is fitted. No cupboards or vaults were broken. All the ornaments kept on display in the showcases were removed. According to Solanki, the estimated value of the stolen ornaments is Rs 34 lakh. We are yet to ascertain the identities of the thieves. Further investigations are on in the matter,” said Madi.

Four kg gold robbed from jewellery shop in Nallasopara

A Jewellery shop at Nallasopara was robbed by four armed robbers on Sunday morning.

According to the Nallasopara police, four men armed with weapons entered Sargam Jewellers in Topaz Shopping Centre around 10.30 am when the owner Mukesh Jain (22) was alone in the shop. They first hit Jain and locked him in an inside room before escaping with gold ornaments kept in the locker and in the shop display widows, totally about 4 kg of gold worth Rs 48 lakh Jain was admitted to a local hospital but is reportedly out of danger
