Sharma had registered a case of theft with Mumbai police on Saturday against Jetlite, accusing the airline’s ground staff of stealing cash, camera, jewellery and credit cards, car keys and house keys from her wallet. The wallet was kept in the baggage she had checked in, apparently on the advice of one of the ground handling staff.
“We have arrested one Satish and Rajneesh after recovering the stolen items from them,” a senior police official said. Sources said Rajneesh was manning the X-ray machine at the departure terminal when he saw valuables in Sharma’s possession on Saturday, when the actor was heading back home in Mumbai after a stage show in Ghaziabad.
Sources said Rajneesh informed Satish, a loader, who takes baggage after screening, about valuables and cash in Sharma’s baggage and, together, they planned to steal them. “CCTV cameras are very helpful in tracking petty theft cases,” an airport official said. “But no CCTV footage was available in this case because the theft was committed after the X-ray screening.”
The two were arrested after some of the stolen items were recovered from them, the official said. “The case is under investigation and more recoveries are possible.”
Sources said Sharma noticed the theft in Mumbai airport, when she found her bag, torn and tattered, in the conveyor belt.
