Thick blanket of fog engulfs most of Punjab

Chandigarh, February 5 A thick blanket of fog today engulfed most places in Punjab and Haryana, disrupting normal life and affecting some flights. Though the minimum temperature witnessed further increase at some places in the region, but for the first time the fog reduced visibility to zero in the two states, the Met Department said here.

The arrival of some flights, including the Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, to this city was also affected. Birmingham-Amritsar flight had to be diverted to Delhi due to foggy weather in Amritsar, where another Air Deccan flight from Delhi could not arrive due to bad weather. Among other places which reported zero visibility this morning were Chandigarh, Ambala, Patiala, Ludhiana, Karnal and Amritsar.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal while Ambala registered a low of 6.3 Celsius. The minimum temperatures recorded at other places were Hisar 5.7 degrees Celsius, Karnal 7.4 Celsius, Amritsar 2.1 Celsius, Bathinda 2.5 Celsius, Ludhiana 5.1 Celsius, Patiala 7.7 Celsius and Shimla 0.1 degree Celsius.
