Mohali Thieves struck in Phase VII late on Tuesday night and fled with the car in front its owner.

Amarinder Singh told police that he rushed outside his home around 2 in the night on hearing the noise of the ignition of his Honda City. Five unidentified men, he said, were ready to take away his car. Amarinder managed to overpower one of the five men but the four soon pushed him to the ground and fled with the car.

Amarinder is an engineer with a Noida-based company and was in city to meet his parents. He managed to note down Chandigarh registration number of a Maruti Esteem car, in which the gangsters were travelling. Investigation officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Narinder Singh told Newsline that the registration number of the car turned out to be that of a Manimajra resident, who told the police that his car was stolen on January 8. “We are following leads given by the complainant but the men have not been traced yet,” the officer said.

A case of theft under Section 379 of the IPC has been lodged in this connection.
