Junagadh In A queer incident, thieves set on fire the records and stationery in a cooperative bank in Junagadh district, allegedly to beat the chill, after they did not find anything valuable worth stealing.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Arnej village, some 15 kilometres from Kodinar town. Union Cooperative Bank manager B M Chauhan has now lodged a complaint in this regard with the Kodinar town police.

The complaint said thieves broke open the shutters of the bank premises, entered it and then broke open the safe. But after they failed to lay their hand on cash and valuables, they collected the records and set them on fire. Later they fled the scene.

The Kodinar town police have now registered complaints under Sections 457, 380 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. Kodinar police Head Constable M T Rathod said investigations are underway.

The details of the destroyed bank records are yet to be collected as bank officials are busy scanning them, he said. He added that prima facie it appeared that the thieves set the documents on fire to beat the chill.
